24 500 chemicals found in bottled water

In a study conducted by German scientists, published in the journal PLoS One, almost 25 000 chemicals were found in diluting butyl with water. Many of these chemicals are related to pharmaceuticals.

The research is divided into two stages:

The first stage:

Tthe researchers tested 18 samples of different water bottles from different manufacturers, from all over the world. The purpose of the tests is to determine whether their contents act on the body's estrogen and androgen receptors. At the same time, the water from the water supply network was also tested. Scientists were shocked to find that most bottled water affects both types of hormone receptors, inhibiting estrogenic activity by 60% and androgenic activity by about 90%. On the other hand, tap water does not affect the two forms of receptors.

The second stage:

During the second stage of the study, scientists are trying to determine exactly which chemicals are the cause of reproductive hormone disruption. Using a variety of chemical detection and isolation methods, researchers have found more than 24,500 different chemicals in bottled water—including two classes, maleates and fumarates, which are known potent endocrine disruptors (hormonally active chemicals). Maleates and fumarates are used to make plastic resins that are used to make water bottles. Despite these alarming results, there's no need to fear for your life if you've been drinking bottled water for years.
Like healthy adults, an occasional sip of the "toxic liquid" of bottled water won't kill you. However, young children, women of childbearing age and pregnant women are at greater risk from exposure to these chemicals.
Effects can manifest as: stunted growth, early puberty, premature birth, infertility and early menopause. And everyone else should use bottled water with caution, as more and more research is finding that these chemical ingredients can also cause diabetes, heart disease and some types of cancer.

Many people now try to use reusable water bottles. Many cities are beginning to adapt water fountains for easier filling of bottles. This process is not only an attempt to protect the environment, but also a concern for people's health.
On this occasion, the FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) already in 2014 banned Bisphenol A (BPA), a chemical used in the production of plastic bottles and food packaging. The bottom line is: pay attention to your health by using reusable bottles. Choosing bottles made of non-toxic glass or ceramic is recommended to ensure your health and safety. Another way is to use water purification systems from the water supply network at home or in the office. And, of course, another benefit - by choosing a reusable water bottle and water purification system you save every time you want to quench your thirst.
